Time?

Time is...
slippery when wet
a star jetting across darkened heavens
a snowflake weeping into the sidewalk
ticking away (okay not that one)
water smoothing the surface of stone
the rings in a tree
a child's hand folded quietly in a mother's hand
lightning ripping the sky
breath on an ice-chilled window
the shadowing light
a tear snaking down a cheek
the golden leaf butterflying down to it's rest on the earth
my sigh
I'm thinking about renaming this the '"No... Thank you!" Award' I think it's appropriate to thank ALL (yes all- even if you're new I do thank you!) the commentors on my blog. They keep me going even when I don't want to go anymore. Like today
While I have her on my mind (I just read her blog) I want to introduce you to Sarah. She's a writer. And she has four little girls. And she's a writer.
Hope you say hello.
Thank you, Sarah!

Fifty/Cincuenta/Cinquante/Funzig...

months. One thousand four hundred twenty nine days. That's the time we have left before we have reached the point of no return. 1429. Does it seem more urgent that way? It's urgent. A group of scientists have come together to tell us all that we are on a path that is leading us straight to a point in global chaos that can not be reversed. Some feel that we are already past that point although I will say that as I read it, the reason they observe the situation in this manner is because the political structure is not in place to change things radically enough in the next 50 months. I happen to concur but nonetheless, it's time to make global change via a global chain (Not unlike the promotional device of coke "I'd like to buy the world a coke...") In all seriousness, we need to stand together, (like the people of Whoville) and say, "We are here (we are here, we are here-- whoops I did say, serious) and we need to have real sustainable change for the sake of the planet we depend on for sustenance!" It's not a simple jingle to shout out, I know, but it is necessary. Otherwise,we are screwed.

So, in an attempt to find a hand to link to, I have joined the One Hundred Months website to express my solidarity with this movement and to show my commitment to the changes that are necessary and YOU CAN TOO. Just click on the picture:

Then we can all sing together: "It's the real thing, coke is!"

Now, in keeping with my month "No, thank YOU!!!! fest" (That's funny, I just now dreamt that up- but that's it's new name) to my commentors, I want to thank the blogger from whom this Comment award originally came...
Trish of WORD + STUFF is a constant in my world of blogging. I met her in a bloghop two years ago and have enjoyed following her blog ever since. She is a librarian so when I gripe about library stuff, she completely grocks (even though some library issues are a little different Downunder, I am sure). She is also a writer and unlike me, is quite industrious and generally has about 5000 projects going at one time. Okay maybe only 4691- but close enough. She is really the most driven person I can think of. She does both NaNos each year and has incredible (unrealistic???) writing goals each year. On top of that she writes songs and has a real artistic flair. This is just one example of her incredible drawings:
Hope you don't mind I posted this Trish! It's really a great example of your work!
She is planning on adding to her portfolio with one drawing a week (I told you she had high goals set and if I followed her example, I would be finished with my project already. Sadly, I am just not as industrious as she is!) So, hope you drop by to see her! Thanks for the award Trish and right back at ya!

Ack! It started...

Well it's October and I have ridiculously committed myself to NaBloWriMo once again. I believe I finished last year having only missed one day, but I suspect I won't make every day of posting for a month this year as there is just not the time- but having said that, I am still going to give it a try. So, off I go---
One of the things I decided I wanted to do with my time this month is to give out an award that was given to me some months back. I have given up on awards for the most part, but this one was a little different. In my last post I mentioned that without readers, our blogs would be... well, they'd just be a lot quieter, I suppose. As a result, I want to spend the month recognizing the folks who comment here so I am giving all my top commentors the 'Great Comments Award!' and I'll be giving a little intro and shoutout to them- one each day.
This morning I awoke, rubbed the sleep out of my eye and checked my email. In my box was the regular stuff I receive which included a new posting from LadyFi. Not a new thing, as I was saying but always a day brightener. Lovely pictures and bits of wisdom to give me something to think about. LadyFi has become an old friend, having commented about 3 (is it 3 already?) years (my how time flies!). Give yourself a gift today and visit her blog. I promise, you'll feel refreshed afterwards.
So, I'm heading out, off to the races, moving on up, etc., etc. Who knows where the road will lead this year but I'm always game for new things so we'll see. If you're visiting from NaBlo and you're wondering who I am, there's a link at the top that gives a bit more info, or you can stick around and I'll try to give more info as the days proceed. For today?
Hello, my name is a Danette and I am soooo happy to meet you. Welcome to 'There's a Place I Dream About.'

Thinking back...

In a few days I will be celebrating 4 years of blogging. Not as long as some, longer than others. Not a record by any means. Since that time I've changed jobs and gotten a new position (I'm now Lead Clerk at Denver Public Library-- the organizer, essentially),
could I have posed this any better?
started seeing a neurologist for my ongoing struggle with migraines (still a long and frustrating journey), I've moved into a new house, my son has had his first day in middle school and now this year, high school.
Just before middle school- 12 yrs old
Maurice was let go of his job at the schools (long and frustrating story) and is now working at the library. Maurice's son (to whom I am pretty close) has moved with the love of his life to Oregon...
And my oldest daughter (25 years old!) has moved into a nice little home she and the love of her life chose to buy (if you're curious about my kids, you can see a bit more here) on the opposite side of town. My middle daughter turned 21 and...
To Life!
Well, let's just say, life has changed dramatically (as it does for all of us) although not as dramatically as the previous four years (but THAT is truly another long story).

I began blogging because I was asked by the founder? originator? person who thought up 'National Blog Writer's Month' ( a.k.a. NaBloWriMo) suggested I start one because I am a writer and because she hoped I would join NaBlo. I began writing on my blog as a sort of catharsis, ranting on politics, religion, and anything else that came to mind. I wasn't really aware of what blogging really was, that the goal was to get readers, follow others, etc... And perhaps even if someone has told me, I wouldn't have cared. I needed my blog to be what it was at that time. Eventually I figured out there were other bloggers out there- some with great pictures, others with interesting ideas and others who were writing (just like I was -and am). I had more time for blogging when I first began this little trek of mine and though now my schedule is much more demanding, I still plug on, posting mostly pictures that I take as Mo and I find beautiful vistas and hidden wild gardens because, essentially, I have no energy to write a lot for my blog and write on my WIP.
(I really love this cover design but doubt the artist will let me use it.)
I'm usually completely satisfied with my blog- I love sharing the pics I take with you and I love looking back at them. Sometimes I feel a little guilty that I don't share a bit more of my life (I mean how many of you knew that my oldest was 25???)
On the other hand, I am firmly of the thought that my blog is for beauty and horizons, not for airing dirty laundry, family secrets or telling work stories (although I have told a few humorous ones).

Next month, I will strive to post every day although I can already tell you it is going to be difficult to etch out the time in my schedule. What will most definitely not be difficult is that I am going to use that time to tell you a little about the blogging friends I have found along the way because let's face it, what would our blogs be without readers? Well, I guess they'd be diaries- which aren't bad! But as writers we do hope to find people who will respond to what we wrote, who will find a bit of truth or make a connection in some way. All the bloggers I share will be friends, oldish and newish (all relative to my blogging years) not all writers, just fellow travelers out there in the blogging world.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I will!
