Hello, I'm the United States of America and I'm an addict

So this is what we're driven to by our addiction...

When a family is finally ready to admit their loved one has a problem, they stage an intervention. Unfortunately when the loved one is a bully and holds all the (financial) cards, honesty is often more dangerous than the consequences of the addiction. The family merely hopes he or she will drink themselves to death before killing anyone.

In memory of

Dear friend and fellow colleague Jody Gehrig passed away today. She had a passion for books-- good books. She was energetic, smart, and funny. Sitting in a review committee meeting with her, she was often heard to say, "If it's a bad book, tell us that it's a bad book. Don't be afraid to say that it stinks." She ran ERS (Educational Resource Services) at DPS but was also an advocate for the individual employee and teaching librarians in general. She is survived by her family who I have no doubt will miss her far more sorely than shall I. Yet her loss is keenly felt.

I Grieve

It was only one hour ago
It was all so different then
Nothing yet has really sunk in
Looks like it always did
This flesh and bone
It's just the way that we are tied in
But there's noone home
I grieve...
for you
You leave...
Me
So hard to move on
Still loving what's gone
Said life carries on...
Carries on and on and on...
And on
The news that truly shocks
is the empty, empty page
While the final rattle rocks
Its empty, empty cage...
And I can't handle this
I grieve...
For you
You leave...
Me
Let it out and move on
Missing what's gone
Said life carries on...
I said life carries on and on...
And on
Life carries on in the people I meet
In every one that's out on the street
In all the dogs and cats
In the flies and rats
the rot and the rust
In the ashes and the dust
Life carries on and on and on...
And on
Life carries on and on and on...
Life carries on and on and on...
And on
Life carries on and on and on...
Just the car that we ride in
The home we reside in
The face that we hide in
The way we are tied in
As life carries on and on and on...
And on
Life carries on and on and on...
Did I dream this belief
Or did I believe this dream
How I will find relief
I grieve...

Losing a friend

The librarian at Merrill M.S. and fellow book review committee member has lost her long struggle with cancer. She was a sweet, sweet lady who took her illness with grace and courage. She was intelligent and kind (not an unusual combination!) and a lover of books. We will miss you Brenda~!
