The standard collective noun for a group of birds is a "flock" but for many types of birds there is a collective noun particular to their type.
A peep of chickens
A murder of crows
A flight of doves
A charm of goldfinches
A parliament of Owls
and...
A murmuration of Starlings
and this is what they look like as they settle in to roost at night:
Another video with the amazing dance of the Starlings.
This has been going around Facebook. Astounding sight!
ReplyDeleteI had to research collective nouns for animals when I was writing my SQUEAKY sequel (which I, ahem, still haven't finished).
ReplyDeleteAmazing sight. A times it looks like a giant amoeba reaching out to engulf the trees.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the Silence of the Lambs. Afterall, Jodi Foster was Clarice Starling. Hannibal Lecter said, "Fly fly fly". Maybe he visualized this exact moment that you are showing in this video. This means, Danette, that you are in sync with a fictional serial killer. How do you feel about that?
ReplyDeleteThat is so amazing. Thank you for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is astounding. Imagine seeing it in real life? I might be too scared to run... ;-)
ReplyDeleteHope you are well, my dear! Happy Writing this week! Sorry I've been out of play for a week or so, things are little crazy right now. x
Lady Fi: I'm completely captured by it! It's amazing!!
ReplyDeleteTrisha: You have so many projects going, I don't know how you keep up!
Botanist: You're right! They also look like a wave at times.
Michael: In sync with Hector Hannibal, hmmm... maybe I'll have some fava beans and chianti for dinner.
MPax: You're welcome! Thanks for dropping by!
Talei: It is almost ghostlike. It made me wonder if it's sights like this that cause people to think there's a ghost.
