Spring fever

Staring out the window, I long to do nothing other than bask in the sun's warmth, gaze at the marshmellowed blueness above me and feel the warm breeze tugging at my hair. The last-day-of-school-excitement has been long been part of my yesterdays but Grannus* has always held sway over my heart.
I watch the first buds of spring on my windowsill with the anticipation of Christmas morning.
There is promise in the little bumps that stretch awkwardly outward, capturing sunlight for photosynthesized food.
And a year's worth of care and tenderness produces flower laden branches, their arms bursting- a tender homage to the sun.
The orchid. My personal piece of sunshine on my windowsill!

I've been so busy with plants and my little patio garden I haven't even been thinking about blogging but I thought I would share a little of my labors with you. I've had this orchid for 2 years now and I am always delighted by it's flower. What about you? Have you been planning and planting your garden?

*Grannus was a deity associated with warm spas, thermal healing, mineral springs and the Sun- a celtic Apollo worshiped mainly in northern Gaul.

  3. I don't own a house. I don't have a garden. Maybe someday that will change. I hope so. I'd like to own stuff.

    1. I don't own stuff. My house is a rental and I don't have much that is mine in the house. The bed isn't even mine technically. I own a computer and an old (but cute!) used car.

  4. I'm impressed with your orchids! I can never get a 'consecutive' year of flowering with mine. Only my mother seems to be able to do that! Happy spring my dear, am enjoying the blossoms here and ignoring the rain. :-) *clink clink* xox

    1. Thanks Talei! I have been surprised by my orchid too. I didn't know you could keep them going this long and each year there are more and more blossoms!

  5. What pretty flowers! We haven't planted anything yet, but I keep thinking a container garden on our balcony would be nice. We spent last summer in the USA and planted vegetables and herbs, which was fun. I wish we could do it again!

Happy Spring, Danette! I'm glad you're enjoying your garden!

    1. If you decide to plant in containers, I think you'll find you like it. In our little rental that's all we have room for really and it's a lot less work in many ways!

  6. I don't have a garden, really - just crappy grass that is all weeds. Maybe someday when I own my own place, I'll put some effort into a garden. :)

    1. Try a potted tomato outside Trish! It's fun to eat homegrown veggies-- even if you only get a couple.
