How many more do I need to join???

So I got this email today... Hello, someone liked your blog at http://conch-to-be.blogspot.com and sent you an invitation to http://purebloggers.com . Pure Bloggers is a social-network for bloggers and companies. Need more traffic? Want to sell Bannerspace or links? Offer services at your blog? Want to get more readers? Or just share experiences with other bloggers? Get in touch with 1000s of Companies and Bloggers! http://purebloggers.com is the right place for you. Sign up for free now and join the biggest blogger and companies network!
Have you gotten it? If so, (or even if not) why do I want it or care? I mean yet ANOTHER social network? I joined bloggers networking thingy sometime ago and the "friends" I make there are not even visiting my real blog! I am on Twitter and have a LinkedIn account. What does that do for me? I have friends on Goodreads (which fortunately has the benefit of helping me keep track of my library although I should enter more of them) But what is the point? To get me to sign up for more stuff so that more companies can track whatever I am interested in or buying?? I don't buy (haha! I don't buy it!) that it's connecting me to more readers anymore. I don't think if I add Facebook to my list of "I-should-have-my-smiling-face-here-too!" websites that I'll be that much more connected to the outside world. I'm fine with my 218 friends social networking here in my little corner of the world Companies-who-just-want-to-sell-me-more-stuff-I-don't-need. I'm just fine! Now leave me A-Lone.
Now here's a picture to remind me of what's good and lovely in the world.
And it don't cost a thing.

  1. Quite right! Just remember, none of these sites are doing it for your benefit, there's usually more in it for them than there is for you.

    1. Glad you like the picture! As far as what companies are up to these days... just read an article in the New York Times (and it used Target as an example but Target is not the only ones by far) but they gather so much info on people via the internet and following their shopping habits with the coupons they send out that they can actually come close to guessing when some of their pregnant customer's due dates are. It was incredible!

  2. I've had a few requests to join sites that promise to build my readership etc.... phht....I'm not here to make a business out of my blog. They all start out telling you "how wonderful" your blog is and then they get down to the business of getting you on their side. Delete...

    1. Right on. I generally don't think twice and just delete but this one came after the article about Target and I was annoyed at business practices in general and decided to protest.

  3. Yup, got that mail also. Ignored it.

I don't have many readers and nobody hardly ever comments on my posts (thanks for always doing that Danette :), but I'd rather have people "find" my blog accidentally or by recommendation, and keep on reading it if they find it interesting -- not because of some bulk mail or mutual agreements of "if you follow my blog I'll follow yours". I actually find blogging to be this therapeutic outlet for ME, and even if not one single person knows of the existence of my blog, I'll keep writing it. Less intimidating anyway :)

Ah, that picture could well be from Finland, you know ? Well, not right now but maybe in four months' time...Right now we're drowning in snow.

    1. I wish it looked like that here now. That was a long time ago (it seems) before the bloody snow came.

  4. I got that email and trashed it.

Basically, they are just looking for a way to make money off of you. That's all that crap is. They aren't in the business to actually help you do anything.

    1. I agree one hundred percent but I do think there are bloggers who think it will actually help so I wrote about it.

  5. I've gotten e-mail like that too and agree with all of the above that it is just a way to make money for their business.

    1. It's pretty sickening, how we've all become dollar signs to them.

  6. And the problem with exploiting you for a little cash is . . ?

    1. I guess that depends on. Just how much cash???

    2. Hmm . . . Based on the photograph that accompanies your self-indulgent mumblings I'm prepared to pay up to 27-28 cents. C'est equitable, oui?

  8. You know, I don't think I've ever actually been approached by a company or networking group about my blog, but somehow...I'm okay with that.

    Beautiful picture!

  9. I quite agree. I keep getting FB notifications but I never go there so don't really care. Much more interested in what's happening in the bloggy world. I got that, too, and tossed it :)

  10. Hi lovely lady! Firstly, thanks so much for the birthday wishes. ;-) Sorry I've not been able to get back to you until now, things are still hectic with the house move and unpacking. Never ending, is it?

Now, I did get this email you speak of! I ignored it. I feel exactly the same way right now about Pinterest, doing my best to stay away as I don't think there's enough hours in the day . Going to stick to writing once I can get back on track. Have a fab week! xox

  11. Yeah, there is such a thing as having too much time on one's hands, or at least the social networking world demanding that we give it more time!! there's only so much a sane person can do before they get burnout :P I think limiting your activity to what you are comfortable and happy with is just fine!
