Spring is Springing!

According to Climate Central this was the fourth warmest winter in recorded history in the contiguous U.S. . It's alarming (to say the least!) that the change in weather patterns (yes, caused by climate change or as we  more aptly call it "climate chaos") is becoming so obvious. Our February (the snowiest on record here in Colorado) was more like March which is a month we have often seen our lawns buried in snow (in 2003 we had a record 3 ft. of snow during spring break!)
In spite of the alarming side of the weather news, I am overjoyed that I am out again, taking pictures of the landscape. Note the snow on Mt. Evans in my header- it's already lost much of it's winter white and the hills will soon be as green as the Evergreen in the foreground.

The crocuses have just now shaken off the winter doldrums, pushed their way out of hibernation and are dotting the still barren gardens with color.
A tenacious wildflower has welcomed the warm air with the exuberance I feel and reminds us that lingering long days in the sun have only just begun!

  2. We had so little snow here this winter and now I've got crocuses blooming, blackbirds staking out their territory and I just know any day I'll be hearing the peepers...maybe tonight :)

    1. We had plenty of snow just not that cold. I wish I could be sad about that but it is scary!

  3. It's good to see the bulbs peeking through, and the first hints of blossom on the trees. What scare me most about climate change is the way Big Business - with a vested interest in business as usual - is successfully rubbishing any suggestion that human activity has anything to do with it.

    1. It's sickening isn't. Big Business tells us what to think and do it so cunningly that we (not you or I but people in general) think we thought it!

  4. I LOVE spring flowers. How different this winter was from last year. I actually didn't have to run away from Chicago to avoid the frigid temps and howling winds. Over eighty there today.

Florida, as always, is lovely this time of year. And of course the beach is always welcome. I strolled along watching the sandpipers dash away from the foamy shores.

Oleanders are in bloom everywhere as well as the stunning desert roses. Spring is quite pretty here in central Florida.

You pics are beautiful Danette... they never disappoint the viewer.

    1. Thanks Michael. I had heard that Chicago was enjoying some unseasonably warm weather on Sunday.

  5. I fell in love with Denver last October when I traveled there to meet my son for the first time in 35 years. Needless to say I fell in love with more than just Colorado. Lovely pictures and very nice blog. I will be back often.

    1. You had so much nice weather at the beginning of winter, I'm not surprised your having some winter weather now. But soon it will be spring there too!

  7. Lovely flowers. I suppose my love affair with the Denver Broncos is now over because Tebow got kicked to the curb. Not that any of that matters. It was fun while it lasted :)

    1. Sorry for the disappointment Michael. Football is a dog eat dog world and Tebow just wasn't superbowl material. I'm sure he'll wind up somewhere that you can watch him and continue your fanafair. ;)

  8. I know the weather extremes isn't GOOD but I can't help NOT enjoy every minute of this warm weather we've had! This winter was such a blessing to me, I cannot STAND the ice and snow! It's so springy and warm I love it! Beautiful flowers!

    1. I am with you! You hate the winter so I am glad to see spring. I would rather my comfort not come at the earth's expense.

  9. Winter finally showed up end of February here. Snowing again today. But it's not sticking.

  10. Spring has a different meaning for me this year. So far, I'm enjoying the wildflowers and sprouting flowers I'm seeing on cacti during my morning walks and hikes. Yeah, Spring! :)

  11. Nah, it's not Climate Change! It was all the heat generated by rabid (and for good reason) Tim Tebow fans! Now that Denver has seen fit to send him to N.Y., watch what happens next winter. lol

    1. I'm hoping he'll stop getting a pass. The press loved him here because he was a clean-cut christian type- at least that's how he is portrayed. But his commercial during the Super Bowl for Focus on the Family belies his true beliefs- as the reporter from The Nation reported recently in a radio interview, he is anti-gay and probably pro-life.

  13. Our crocuses are out here in Northern Ontario too. It's always a thrill to see them out. Although the weather patterns are very scary. What have we done to our poor planet to throw it so much off kilter???

    1. Just read an article at Reader Supported News on climate change... the average (And I point out that it is AVERAGE) arrival for spring is three days earlier than it was in the 30 years prior to 1981. They are also saying that March has beat or tied 7000 (yes! Seven Thousand) records for warmest temps in the US. More on that...

  14. What pretty flowers. My wife has been out almost daily for weeks now cultivating our flower garden since it got warm here during February... usually a pretty cold month for us.
